For our Christmas Eve dinner each year my Tia Irene is responsible for most of the legwork, meaning she hosts the event, cooks a good portion of the food, decorates, cleans, giftwraps, etc. All she asks of her guests is that each person bring a dessert or an appetizer and a bottle of wine. Jed and I usually bring 2 bottles of wine and a dessert. This year I wanted to bring a dessert known as Oreo Balls. My friend Bridget introduced me to them just a few weeks ago and I had been begging her for the recipe ever since.
These petit balls of heaven are made of crushed oreos, cream cheese, melted white chocolate and crushed peppermint flakes. They are perfection in spherical form–this opinion coming from someone who hates oreos and thinks white chocolate is a waste of space. Somehow the combination of these ingredients just really does the trick.
So I place the Oreo Balls on the dessert table–a never-ending smorgasbord of sweet delights such as fudge, toffee, cookies, eclairs, etc.–and watch as people hover over them unconvinced.
“I promise you’ll love them,” I pleaded. They eventually gave in and did indeed fall in love. Here’s the thing about Oreo Balls...once you try them, you’re hooked.
We then decided it was necessary to stage a faux commercial of Oreo Ball consumption.
Here’s what ensued.

mmmm sounds yummy. white chocolate, not actually being chocolate at all, is often unwelcome in my mind (or mouth) as well... but it does have its place in some things, though it's so easy to overdo it.
You had me at oreo...
