Ever since my pregnancy days when I found it impossible to remember anything, I've gotten into the habit of making to-do lists. These are wonderfully organized little task checklists that serve the purpose of not only assisting me in getting things done, but also boosting my ego. You see, with each task marked off, I slowly feel better and better about my ability to conquer the day. Who knew that a tiny, pen checkmark could make someone feel so good?
A typical day's to-do list while on maternity leave goes something like this:
- Pay bills
- Workout on elliptical trainer
- Take a shower
- Transfer breast milk to freezer
- Clean wedding band
- Wax eyebrows
- Empty cat litter box
- WD-40 all the doors
- Call pediatrician about Caleb's records
- Pick up photos at Sam's Club
- Order birth control from CVS
- Buy diapers
Sometimes the to-do list is meant to be checked off over the course of a week. But here's the funny part. I'll find myself accidentally stumbling upon a task that wasn't on the to-do list. Something like, sweep the kitchen floor or give myself a manicure. Only, I don't find satisfaction in just doing the task. I feel compelled to then add that finished task to the to-do list for the sole purpose of checking it off. The longer the to-do list, the more accomplished, more successful I feel. Just thought you should know how crazy a person I've become.

Just so you know, I totally added stuff to my daily lists that I accomplished after the fact. You're not crazy.
Just for the record, you were always a list writer, even as a child.
Amazingly I continue to learn fascinating personal details about you and your life. I am officially announcing that I will consider writing a book. Keep the details coming so I can think about chapter titles. Please add "buy wine" to your daily to-do list.

Seth, the thing about buying wine is that that is a task I would never forget. It has no place on the list.
Yep, I do it too. I won't accomplish anything without a list. In fact, going back to childhood motivational tactics, Tim gives me stickers on our calendar when I do something like make bread or clean the house. I should make a post about that.. he always gets really good stickers too. Dinosaurs are maybe my favorites.
