My sister Melissa and I both are cat lovers. Almost all the women in my family are. It’s in our blood.
We each have our own very strategic methods for showering our kitty-cats with love, but both my sister and I swear by the kitty-treat bribery method. We prefer the Pounce brand of cat treats because they come in this delightful little plastic cylindrical container that, when shaken, causes a sweet rattling noise that cats love. Kitties always come running.
Recently, my sister has taught her 17-month old daughter Madeline (Magpie) to share in this event. Magpie now loves to feed Smokey the cat her daily snackies. She shakes the snack jar and says, “1-2-3, treats for Smokey!” as she places three treats on the ground for the cat.
Well this morning, Magpie was going through the snackie ritual as usual. Melissa walked out of the room momentarily only to return to find Magpie’s mouth full and the floor clear of cat treats.
Magpie looked up sweetly at her mother and said, “More?”
With Magpie’s mouth ajar, Melissa could see broken bits of soft Pounce treats. How could a child who spits out ripe, delicious strawberries in disgust possible enjoy the taste of cat treats?!
Melissa said that the worst part was that Magpie had cat breath all morning. She had to forewarn the daycare workers and hope that perhaps the putrid breath might dissipate after lunch.
One has to assume that cat treats are safe for humans to eat, or else we wouldn’t feed them to our cats. But the question remains…are they tasty?

I guess we will never know for sure....I would have loved to see Melissa's face as she unfolded, in her mind, what had just happened...I am sure Madeline is fine by now and no worse for the experience. If she eats it again...you might conclude the taste is 'not so bad' or you might conclude, she prefers to eat with her kitty. :-)
