Winter wonderland

Here in Durham we love getting snow – it happens so rarely. The "wintry mix," as the weather channel loves to call it, began last night around 6 pm.

Wintry mix coming down slowly.

By 8 pm there was a soft blanket of snow covering the ground.

This is the view this morning around 10:30. A whole 4 inches of snow. AWESOME!!

The best part about the snow is that it gave us an excuse to put Caleb in his Columbia bear suit, a precious gift from Aunt Kristin in Alaska. It fit Caleb perfectly and he stayed snug and warm while we were outside playing in the snow.

Hi Melanie. I got your comment about the childcare co-op. We are no longer trying to get it going (and I should post a summary to our original co-op blog!). We ultimately ran into the extremely burdensome, costly, and uncertain zoning permit process to allow childcare in a residential zone in Durham and that killed it. I know from talking with other people that this process has also slowed or ended the attempts of others to start new high-quality childcare options in the area. Hopefully the city will eventually adjust it. Our solution of ourselves in light of this has been a nanny share (with one of the families we met through the co-op attempt). It's been working very well for us, and I think the prevalence of this type of arrangement in downtown Durham is probably a reflection on the lack of high-quality childcare availability . . . Good luck finding a good arrangement for your family, and I'd be happy to talk more - elaine.mcvey at gmail.

Btw, your little guy is adorable, and the dog romping in your photo looks a lot like our little white pit bull!
