An interior to remember

Hubby and I recently met with our insurance agent to update life insurance, home insurance, car insurance, etc. The very experienced and helpful State Farm agent insisted we do something immediately - take photos of every room of the house and store them in a safe place (outside of the house). This isn't the first time I've heard this advice. About 3 years ago, a friend of mine's house burned down. In the aftermath of the tragedy, she was required to write down everything she once owned so that insurance could replace her belongings. She said it was the most difficult part of the whole experience, trying to remember what she owned. Pictures help.
As soon as hubby and I got home from the insurance session, we carefully documented our home with photos of each room, each closet, each cabinet, each and every nook and cranny. This was a shockingly painful process.
Photos don't lie. They are brutally honest in showing just how messy we are, especially when life gets busy - which it has lately. With each additional photo, I saw our untidy life piling up before my very eyes. It was disgusting. I was embarrassed to be taking the photos, burning to film (or media card) permanently what I was horrified to be looking at in reality.
Here is just one example - the current state of our laundry closet. I'm sorry to have to show you this. I felt the need to confess to someone.

I won't burden you with the other photos.  Just know that hubby and I have some deep cleaning to do in our futures. But at least in the event our house burns to the ground we'll be able to replace each and every token that comprises our messy life that we treasure so dearly.
